Personal Touches to Wedding Ceremonies

Here comes the bride starts playing, the crowd stands, and the bride walks out in a beautiful gown. This is the traditional beginning to most wedding ceremonies. Recently, couples have started adding more personal touches to their ceremonies and add another element than just saying vows and exchanging rings.

These aren’t just a way to engage your guests into something more personal, but also gives you something to take with you from the ceremony and look back on. Here are the top individual ceremonies that you can add to your wedding to give it a little more pizazz.

Unity Candle Ceremony
This ritual has been more and more common in wedding ceremonies. It’s a symbolic way to show two families joining together as one, and a great way to include your family members. Two parents, either mothers or fathers, come up and light two individual candles at the beginning of the ceremony. The couple then uses those candles to simultaneously light one larger candle, symbolizing their “unity”.

Love Letters and Wine
In this ceremony, the couple writes love letters to one another before the wedding, and seal them in envelopes. They choose a bottle of wine, and during the ceremony, put the letters and wine into the box and seal it. The box is not to be opened until the 5th wedding anniversary, or in a dire time of need in the marriage. The box itself should be kept on display to serve as a reminder for the love that they share for each other, and what they wrote in the letters.

Sand Ceremony
This tradition is similar to the unity candle, but is easier to be done in an enclosed space or somewhere where flames aren’t permitted. The couples fill two jars with colored sand, and during the ceremony, simultaneously pour the sand into one jar. The mixing of the grains of sand are much like the mixing of the families. Once poured together, it would be impossible to separate. The mixed colors look beautiful together, and the jar can be displayed in your home.

Gifting the Parents
Your parents are the people who helped you become who you are today. It would be a great idea to honor them and show how much they mean to you by setting aside a moment during the ceremony to recognize them. In your ceremony, present your parents with flowers, tokens or something that would mean something to them that is personal and small.

Why to Buy Wedding Invitation Packages

At Jenn Lane Design we specialize in offering a wide variety of wedding invitations packages. We decided to try to answer a very simple question. Why order wedding stationery in a package? What are the benefits of doing so? We compiled our list and chose to share the top 5.

1.Save Money
The best reason of course to buy your stationery in a wedding package is that you save money! The best reason to purchase wedding invitations in a package is all about the pocket book. The more you buy, the more you save. By bundling up your purchase and going with a wedding invitation package you allow yourself to split the profit with the stationery company. You will also get huge shipping and handling savings if you order online, only having to pay for one order as opposed to 3 or 4. Estimated savings $100.

2.Coordinate your Wedding Stationery
The next pinnacle reason to purchase your stationery in a package is overall coordination of your save the dates, invitations, RSVP’s, thank you cards, reception cards, and everything else you want printed for your wedding. All your stationery needs to be coordinated and well planned for your special day. Your wedding is one of the biggest days of your life and your stationery is a major piece of the overall message you want to send to your guests.

3.Save Time
Not only are you going to save some money and have a central message with your wedding stationery,
but you will also save yourself a ton of time. Every couple knows how long it takes to try and find a
wedding vendor. Now imagine how many hours you’re saving not having to go to different vendors for
every different wedding stationery item. As with all things time is money, so go ahead and take on this
savings too!

4.You Won’t Miss Anything
We get calls all the time coming from couples who simply forgot to get envelopes for RSVPs and thank
you cards. You may not be in this category, but sometimes it is hard remembering every little detail
about what needs to be included with your wedding invitations. Just by looking at certain packages it
will be immediately obvious how MUCH is included and you may be surprised to all the little details that
you may have forgotten! Don’t assume a single package has EVERYTHING, but use them to see what
you may be missing.

5.It’s Stress Free
If you combine all of the reasons listed above, you’ll be able to easily tell that shopping for wedding stationery in packages will save you all the stress of shopping for each piece individually. You will be able to check off several items on your to-do list in one quick “check!” What saves stress more than saving money, time and being able to get everything you want from one place.

Top Ten Reasons Kim Kardashian Filed for Divorce from Kris Humphries

In a shocking turn of events, Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from basketball husband, Kris Humphries yesterday. I guess we’ll have to go back and revise that list we made less than two weeks ago…

In order to make us feel better for having a marriage on our top 10 list that didn’t last through the first 2 months, we’ve made a new list to make up for it.

In true Letterman fashion, we present:

Top Ten Reasons Kim Kardashian Filed for Divorce from Kris Humphries

10. After over 2 months of being married Kim still had no idea who Kris Humphries was.

9. Someone finally told Kim that Jersey Shore is filmed primarily in Kris’s current team the Net’s
hometown, needless to say she was pissed!

8. Kris refused to film an E! reality TV show about their E! reality TV show.

7. It was doomed from the start when Lindsay Lohan showed up in a white dress.

6. Kim felt she could double down and make $20 million off her next wedding.

5. Kim finally found out there was going to be an NBA lockout next season.

4. Kim stood next to Kris without heels for the first time and finally realized that the nearly 3
foot height difference is absurd.

3. She found out Kris was previously married and just couldn’t take it. (Oh wait, that was the other way around…)

2. She made a bet with Jessica Simpson a month ago about who would be on the cover of Us
Weekly this week.

And the number one reason why Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kris Humphries is…

1. The executive producer (Kim Kardashian) of Kourtney and Kim Take New York felt next season’s
finale needed a little extra drama, and knew just where to find some!

Guest Post: How to Make Your Wedding Stand Out From the Crowd

Today’s guest post comes from Sarah Palmer of pink shoes art.

It all seems to happen at once, out of nowhere everyone you know will start getting married. The first few will be great and the simple act of going to a wedding will be a novelty but after you start getting the forth or fifth invitation they are all going to start looking pretty samey especially when you start getting invited by friends who are in your extended circles. So what can you do to make sure that when your wedding invitation drops through their letterbox that your wedding stands out and makes them excited to be attending rather than added to the pile of wedding invitations they have been invited this year.

First of all think outside the box for the venue. Most weddings will be in a church or a registry venue. Then you will get the weddings that take place in Vegas or somewhere sunny. If you pick somewhere or something unusual your wedding will be a memorable day for everyone and something everyone is counting down the days to attend. Can you get married bungee jumping? or on a plane or boat? or on a TV show? There are plenty of great things you can do to keep it romantic as well as fun. A nice side bonus is that if you get attention from press about your unusual wedding you can often end up getting paid for your story or sponsored and help cover a lot of the wedding costs.

Why not send out handmade cards? Having hand drawn and handmade cards is a great way to add a personal touch to everyone’s invitations. You can keep it simple and have handmade cards or you can buy accessories that you can attach to the basic handmade cards to make them personal to everyone being invited. Simple touches can really make your card and invitation stand out from the rest.

Another great fun idea is to record one of those wedding music videos. As the bride and groom enter, everyone lip syncs to a song and you create a really fun lasting memory that gets everyone involved. These are becoming more and more popular and examples can be found on YouTube. This is obviously filmed after the real wedding in the same venue so it doesn’t ruin the actual ceremony either. A similar idea is to pick something unusual as your first dance as a married couple at the reception, again plenty of examples can be found on YouTube.

Pick an unusual theme for your wedding. Most people pick gold, silver, pink, or flowers or sparkles. Why not pick something different, like pirates, or Alice in wonderland, or your favour book or movie. Even with quite unusual films and books and ideas you can pick out some great themes that run through them that can make your wedding look amazing, unusual and classy rather than like a cheap Halloween party.

Pick an usual cake. Cupcakes and donuts are becoming more popular than ever over the traditional wedding cake. See if you can get a custom cake made that means something to the bride and groom there are some really talented cake makers out there and most ideas can be turned into a great wedding cake.

How to Pick the Perfect Centerpieces

Centerpieces are the main decorative item in your wedding reception. Having a great centerpiece can tie a room together, while having a bad centerpiece can make mingling difficult with your guests and leave your tables too crowded and uncomfortable.

There are a few key components to making a beautiful centerpiece that is both functional and beautiful. Just go down the list and you can easily customize the arrangement to what you want for your reception.

For the focal point, choose something that you can build around, such as:
pilar candles
tealights
a small bouquet of flowers
individual cakes or cupcakes (this would be a great favor idea!)
a vase with colored gemstones, rocks or fruit
wine bottles (also an excellent favor, just make sure you have sparking cider for the under 21 crowd)
gourds or pumpkins for a fall themed wedding
vintage birdcages filled with flowers

For the containers, choose something that works with the theme and decór. For an affordable idea, you can get vases from thrift stores in different sizes and shapes. You can find shipping crates for rustic themes, or tall cylinder vases for a modern look. Most hotels that hold wedding receptions have small plates of glass that reflect candlelight beautifully, giving the room ambiance.

Around the containers, you can decorate the table with gemstones, shells, flower petals and votive candle holders to tie the table and the centerpieces together. You can buy pieces of fabric or handkerchiefs to lay on the tables to add a pop of color from the tablecloth.

Once you have all the components in place, all you have left to do is arrange it on the table in a way that allows enough room for the plates, silverware, glasses and favors to be placed.

Your guests will love and appreciate the special touches and time you took to plan and arrange beautiful centerpieces for your tables.

Unique Guestbook Ideas

At most weddings, on your way to the platters of cheese, fruit and perhaps even an open bar, you have to make one quick stop and sign your name in the guest book. Traditionally, the book is plain and consists of gray lines on which to hastily sign and get to the goods waiting for you at the reception, but lately, guests books have become crafty, creative and unique to the couple. Guest books are now a piece of the reception that describes the couples’ personality.

One of the most popular guestbook ideas is one that stems from an age old school tradition. We’ve all spoken the words, “will you sign my yearbook?” and watched as someone flipped through the pages to sign next to their class picture. The only difference is that this book is filled with beautiful pictures of you and your new husband or wife (and will hopefully consist of less profanity).

Why not have a guestbook that can hang in your house? Frame an 8 x 10 engagement picture with a wide mat around the edges for enough room for your guests to sign. This way you can hang the photo up in your home and always look back at how great it was to spend time with everyone who attended.

To make your guestbook more interactive, decorate a large jar and have pens and small slips of paper set out that match your wedding colors. Ask the guests to write you a message, like “where do you see us in 20 years” or “what is the key to successful marriage”. You can keep the jar in your house and take a peak at your guests advice, quips and well wishes whenever you want.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Set out a Polaroid camera and have a scrapbook set up with photo corners already put in. Have your guests take their photos and then write a little message in your guestbook next to their photo.

How To Save on Wedding Favors

For all brides and grooms the most important thing about your wedding day is to make it perfect! The thing most couples struggle with is the balance between this perfection and the imperfect reality that in fact money does not grow on trees! The compromise of course is to find nice ways to save money while not compromising style. One of the best ways to save money is to find ways to save on your wedding
favors.

According to our wedding budget calculator wedding favors cost anywhere from $200-$500 depending on your average number of guests. While there is very little you can do to get this number to approach zero and yet still have favors that your guests will appreciate, there are several favor ideas that will keep your bill between $100-$200. We will share their fun ideas with you!

One of the most popular ideas is the candy buffet. In a candy buffet you will have not only some decorative scenery added to your reception, but your guests will love picking out there and your favorite candy. For most candy buffets the favor itself is temporary, but the memory is enduring! I love couples that give me candy on their wedding, simply put it is my favorite! And the best part for you is the savings. For less than $80 you can purchase candy buffet jars, for less than $10 you can have containers, and for $100 you can have a ridiculous amount of candy! Favor problem solved.

Another fun and inexpensive idea is adding a little DIY flavor to classic wedding sparklers. Put the sparkler in a nice decorative holder and watch as your guest light theirs throughout the night and add some additional fun and excitement. Or see pictures of their use on the 4th of July many months after the ceremony.

Of course the last two ideas will leave a temporary smile on your guests, if you wanted to give your guest a gift that will last much longer, you could go with a inexpensive small picture frame. You can then send out a picture of the two of you that fits in the frame in your thank you cards. Make sure to have 1 frame per family to really save!

TOP 10 Celebrity Weddings of 2011

What a fantastic year for weddings, we had secret services fit for special agents, royal festivities, and even a couple that turned their special day into a profitable experience. All of these special affairs will leave you wishing you were on their invites!

Shania Twain and Frédéric Thiébaud Wedding
Finally someone gets to ride off into the sunset with Shania Twain! As one of the best destination weddings of the year, Shania and her hubby Frédéric Thiébaud tied the knot in Puerto Rico on New Years Day. Not only was the wedding ceremony absolutely lovely, but there is hardly a warmer place to be on New Years. The best part of course was watching Shania’s 9 year old son Eja walk her down the aisle.

Prince William and Miss Kate Middleton Wedding
For what is truly an event that only happens 2 or 3 times in ones life, the rest of the world got to witness the wedding of the future King and Queen of England! With a guest list that appears to have more in common with a UN conference than your traditional wedding invites, the couple had a traditional royal ceremony followed by a wedding departure that resembled the UK’s version of the Macy’s parade (Wedding Dash). The most shocking thing about the ceremony was that two weeks later, more people were talking about Kate’s younger sister Pippa.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Wedding
What could possibly be better than a royal wedding? A way over the top ceremony including the famous 5’ Kim Kardashian to a 6’ 9” NBA player Kris Humphries in which the two love birds found an interesting way to make things extra special. What makes this wedding so special isn’t the 2 million dollar ring, or the gorgeous Vera Wang gown, it was the reported 18 million they got paid to have the wedding! That’s right, they went way overboard and paid for a truly absurd wedding day, and MADE Money! Let’s hope never find out how much the two of them make on their divorce!

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth wedding
In a VERY sweet home Alabama fashion, Reese Witherspoon tied the knot with Jim Toth with a very personalized and traditional ceremony at her home in California. Following the ceremony Reese had the rest of the world asking “Who in the hell is Jim Toth”. The LA based agent may not be as well known as some of Witherspoon’s more famous ex’s (Ryan Phillippe, Jake Gyllenhaal), but he sure is lucky!

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian wedding
LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian laughed, kissed, drank champagne and even danced to Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” all before the official ceremony even began! Following the pregame the two of them and 35 of their closest family and friends had a wedding ceremony so secluded press needed a helicopter to get their shots!

Michael Buble and Luisana Lopilato wedding
What does having an incredible singing and musical talent buy you nowadays? A multimillion dollar salary and a wedding with an Argentina model named Luisana Lopilato. The couple decided to have 3 separate ceremonies spanning multiple countries and then take a very relaxing 3 week trip to Venice for their honeymoon.

Candice Crawford and Tony Romo wedding
Of course the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback couldn’t only invite a handful of friends and family, but had to limit his guest list to 600, including a number of professional athletes and owners to his special day in Dallas, Texas. What may be a sign for things to change for Dallas fans, Romo may be even more distracted than ever!

Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig wedding
In a very 007 fashion, Mr. and Mrs. bond were able to do what few others in Hollywood even thought possible, pulling off a 100% secret ceremony! Getting married in New York with a guest list of 4, the two will continue their romance on the big screen for their movie “Dream House”.

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince wedding
As if being a rockstar couldn’t get any better, Jamie Hince find a way to hitch one of the most beautiful models in the world Kate Moss. Both wearing traditional yet stunning attire, the rocker and his queen of glamour were able to impress in a very classy way. Keeping a very vintage look and feel for even the most minute details, the two were able to demonstrate why Britain still ROCKS the fashion world.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo wedding
With a very classy traditional look two very talented and way to attractive celebrities tied the knot on a private island owned by none other than Richard Branson. With an intimate crowd the fairytale wedding was “simply perfect”, and is leaving many of us wondering when the next reality TV show recast “Newlyweds” will air on MTV.
